Sautéed Cabbage Recipe

I love creating macro-friendly recipes for different cuisines and this sautéed cabbage has a touch of traditional Asian flavors. Since cabbage naturally has a peppery, earthy taste, it pairs really well with the soy sauce and other seasonings. All you have to do is give the cabbage a quick sauté, add your ingredients and you’re good to go.

What is Sautéed Cabbage?

Let’s take a minute to talk about sautéing. Sautéing is a method of cooking where you fry food in a small amount of fat in a shallow pan over high heat. Fun fact, the word sauté comes from a French word meaning “to jump.”

This method of cooking might seem intimidating but trust me, it’s not hard at all! You can totally sauté. You start by heating a small amount of fat (this recipe uses olive oil) in a pan over high heat. Then you add your food to the pan and stir it occasionally so it will cook evenly and not stick to the pan.

If you’re feeling extra fancy you can always toss the food in the pan instead of stirring it!

Simple Sautéed Cabbage Ingredients

It only takes a handful of items to make this low-calorie, low-carb side. Here are the ingredients you need to make simple sautéed cabbage:

  • Olive oil
  • Green cabbage, roughly chopped
  • Soy sauce (use a gluten-free soy sauce if preferred)
  • Frozen garlic cube, or minced clove
  • Sriracha
  • Everything Bagel Seasoning

How to Sauté Cabbage

When I say this recipe is simple, I mean it! Here’s how to make simple sautéed cabbage:

  1. Heat the pan. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over high heat.
  2. Cook the cabbage. Add the chopped cabbage and sauté for 2 minutes, stirring a few times.
  3. Add remaining ingredients. Add soy sauce, garlic, and sriracha and cook for another 1-3 minutes, or to desired level of tenderness. I like my cabbage to maintain a little crisp.
  4. Remove from heat and top with seasonings. Turn off the heat, and sprinkle the cabbage with Everything Bagel Seasoning or sesame seeds.
  5. Enjoy! Serve this simple sautéed cabbage with any Asian-inspired protein and rice.

Is this Simple Sautéed Cabbage Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free?

This recipe is naturally dairy-free and to make it gluten-free just make sure to pick up some gluten-free soy sauce.
