You guys ask me about postpartum freezer meals sooo often on Instagram stories and I LOVE IT. There’s no more exciting time than before having a new addition to the family, but it can also be intimidating to figure out what you’re all going to eat. So here it finally is! I’m genuinely so excited to get this one up because I’ve been sitting on this list for way too long.

These are 20 real meals I’ve made myself, they freeze and reheat like champs, and they still fit your macros once you’re back to tracking. Let’s get your freezer stocked!

The Bulk Protein Basics

I love working with a bulk protein. Cook a whole bunch of flavorful meat and then plan meals around that pre-cooked, prepped protein. It makes meal planning simple throughout the week. A few of these are my classic bulk proteins, like how I make them for my meal plans, and I put a few high-protein dishes as well that’ll help keep things truly easy.

Postpartum Freezer Meals FAQs

How far ahead should I start freezing meals before baby comes?
Start about 4-6 weeks out if you can. Any earlier and you’re either buying a bigger freezer or eating your stash before baby even arrives.

Do these recipes freeze better whole or in individual portions?
Individual portions, every time. A frozen block the size of a brick takes forever to thaw and you end up eating way more than you meant to just because it’s all defrosted at once. Portion into quart bags or containers before freezing, and write the date and serving size on the outside so you’re not guessing later.

How long do these freezer meals actually last?
Two to three months is the sweet spot for taste and texture. They’re technically safe well past that since your freezer stays below freezing, but the flavor and texture start slipping the longer they sit, so try to work through your stash before the three-month mark.

Do I need to thaw these before reheating?
Thawing overnight in the fridge gives you the best texture, especially for the casseroles and bakes. If you forgot to move something to the fridge, most of the soups can go straight from freezer to pot on low heat, you’ll just need extra time and a little more stirring.

Can I double a recipe to freeze half and eat half now?
Yes, and honestly that’s the easiest way to build up your freezer without an extra cooking session. Just cool the portion you’re freezing completely before it goes in, warm food in the freezer raises the temperature of everything around it.
