This is one of those recipes that’s super simple but in the best kind of way. No weird ingredients. Just a really good, fresh homemade sauce. And HAVING a good homemade sauce is key to not feeling ripped off when eating macro-friendly food, in my opinion. They make everything better and fancier without that much-added effort. Plus, you can make one and keep it in the fridge to add to just about anything! Loving this Avocado-Cilantro Cream. I’m sure it’ll be a FAVORITE at your house too.

Here’s the details…

What You Need to Make Avocado Cilantro Cream:

The list of ingredients for this delicious Avocado Cilantro Cream is short, and most of these ingredients you might even already have on hand.

All you need is:

  • Non-fat Greek yogurt or Sour Cream
  • Avocado
  • Garlic, Minced (or frozen cube)
  • Cilantro Paste (or handful of fresh cilantro)
  • Kosher Salt
  • Lime juice

How to Make Avocado Cilantro Cream:

Skillet with sauce from Lillie Eats and Tells

Making this avocado cilantro cream is super straightforward. You know I love the frozen garlic cubes for extra ease.. but if using fresh, just mince your garlic. Then, in a small bowl, smash your avocado and combine it with all the remaining ingredients. Make sure to mix it well. And voilà, you have the perfect light cream to make almost any dish better.

Store in the fridge for a few days and use it on top of tacos, salads, bowls, etc.

What Pairs Well with Avocado Cilantro Cream:

This Avocado Cilantro Cream goes great with a lot of different dishes, but we usually whip it up for at least tacos!

If you look at my blog, you’ll quickly realize that we LOVE TACOS. They’re so great and quick to make. Especially if you always keep a protein and sauce in the fridge ready to go.

If you need help meal prepping in an easier way, you can see the method that works for me and my family here. It’s so simple, but makes cooking dinner seem way more feasible throughout the week.

Is this dressing GF/DF?

For a while, I was consistently eating gluten and dairy-free while I was trying to figure out some gut stuff for my health. A lot of the recipes I made were naturally gluten and dairy-free or just needed a few tweaks.

This recipe came from my cookbook ONE, which was before I was eating GF/DF.  But I know a lot of you still need gluten and dairy-free alternatives for your food, and a lot of my recipes are naturally GF/DF or still really easy to make swaps.

This Avocado-Cilantro Cream is gluten-free, but it isn’t dairy-free. To make it dairy-free, you’d have to swap out the sour cream for a dairy-free version. I’ve never made it that way, but you can find all my favorite dairy-free swaps here (including my favorite dairy-free sour cream).

Having a good sauce on hand is ESSENTIAL for me when it comes to counting macros.  Store-bought sauces can be good too, but they often have too many calories per TBSP because I like to be able to use enough sauce to effectively drizzle (or drench) my meals!

That’s why I love making my own sauces where I can control my own fats, carbs, etc…that way I can save a little extra for the toppings of my giant nightly shake

But if you like sauces like me, then I have some great ones in my cookbooks LEAT, One, One More Time, and Planned including some great recipes that go well with each sauce.
