Equipment Needed to Make Air Fryer Crispy Fish Tacos
To make these tasty air fryer fish tacos, you’ll need an air fryer. I get asked frequently if having an air fryer is worth it. Is it worth storing? Pulling out? Cleaning? After having one and using it repeatedly, I can confidently say that it is definitely worth having. I was a skeptic at first, especially about having another appliance to store on the counter. But it is a major time-saver, and the food comes out tasting amazing.
If you haven’t gotten an air fryer just yet, this air fryer is great! I also love using these air fryer liners for easy clean-up.

How to Make Air Fryer Fish Tacos
I’m not kidding when I say these delicious tacos are so easy to make! Here’s how to make air fryer fish tacos:
- Preheat the air fryer. Set your air fryer to 400 degrees and let it preheat for a couple of minutes.
- Cook the bell peppers. Once the air fryer is preheated, spray the basket with a mist of avocado oil. Then add your bell peppers and cook for about 5 minutes.
- Season the fish. While the bell peppers are cooking, season your mahi mahi filets liberally with BBQ seasoning. I use the Trader Joe’s BBQ Seasoning and a good sprinkle of kosher salt. If you don’t have BBQ seasoning, a good blend of garlic, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper will work too.
- Cook the fish. When the bell peppers are done cooking, move them to the side of the basket and add the fish. Cook everything for another 5 minutes.
- Prepare the tortillas and toppings. While the fish cooks, toss your cabbage in 2 tablespoons of the cilantro lime ranch, and then char the tortillas over the stove (or just heat in a pan with a little oil spray)
- Assemble the tacos and enjoy! When the bell peppers and fish are ready, pile your tacos high with all the toppings and dig in! (I’ll detail the exact amount for macros in this recipe to help with tracking)
Ingredient Swaps
One of the things I love about these tacos is that you can use whatever type of fish you like! I will say though, definitely stick with a flakey white fish. But that leaves you with some pretty good options.
This recipe calls for mahi mahi, but I love it with other types of fish as well. Tilapia, cod, or halibut all work really well with this recipe so if you have a type of fish you prefer, by all means, use that one!

Easy Air Fried Fish Tacos
Ingredients
- 1-2 bell peppers sliced (or 300 g frozen sliced bell peppers)
- 2 filets of mahi thawed (224 g)
- Trader Joe’s BBQ seasoning*
- Salt and Pepper
- 6 Extra thin mission corn tortillas
- 2 cups shredded green cabbage
- ¼ cup skinny chipotle cream 60 g
- ¼ cup pickled onions
- ¼ cup cilantro lime ranch 60 g
Instructions
- Pre heat air fryer to 400 degrees. Spray basket with a mist of avocado oil spray and add bell peppers. Cook for five minutes. While bell peppers cook, season mahi filets liberally with BBQ seasoning and a good sprinkle of kosher salt. *You can always just use a good blend of garlic, chili powder, paprika, salt, pepper. Just season well.
- When the five minutes are up, scoot bell peppers to the sides to make room for the fish. Add fish and cook for another five minutes until done.
- Toss cabbage in 2 Tbsp of the cilantro lime ranch. Char tortillas over the stove, or heat in a pan with a little oil spray. Build each taco with 10 grams (2 tsp) of chipotle cream, a pinch of the cabbage, a couple tablespoons of the cooked bell pepper, about 40 grams of cooked mahi, a few pickled onions, and a drizzle of the cilantro lime ranch. Enjoy!
